Required repair after 18 months

I am writing to express my dismay regarding the recent failure of my 1 1/2 year old KitchenAid gas range/double oven. While it had been acting squirrelly for a few months - burners not lighting, upper oven not warming, etc. - we finally scheduled service following the upper oven's untimely death. It simply did not turn on at all.
This appliance was purchased in October 2017. During the previous several years, my husband and I had decided that whenever we needed to replace equipment necessary for smooth household functioning, we wouldn't waste our money on cheap junk. Therefore, when our 13 year old, $500 Whirlpool range finally gave signs of wanting to slow down, we gritted our teeth and parted with $1600 to purchase the KitchenAid.
As an above average home cook and avid bread baker, I found this new machine to be a sight to behold and a dream to use. It performed exactly as advertised…for about 13 months. That was just long enough for the 1-year warranty to expire. I started receiving notices warning me to extend my warranty at about the 11 month mark, which struck me as odd. Surely, a $1600 appliance with a name like KitchenAid should give me a few years without real trouble. In any case, $275 (half the price of my previous Whirlpool range) and one new bake igniter later, I again had a working machine.
If this was only the first time I had problems with KitchenAid, I maybe wouldn't be quite so bothered. Several years ago, however, I had a KitchenAid stand mixer. It died after 3 years. Sadly, my experience of the home cooks' "go to" brand isn't great; it would seem that it's not the stalwart it's cracked up to be.
I'm hopeful that with the repair I'll get at least a few more years of use out of this range. Rest assured, however, my next range will not be a KitchenAid. Maybe I'll go back to a $500 Whirlpool…
